The Roales Landholdings
With the arrival of his nephews, Don Tomas was able to parcel out the different work that had to be done in his landholding. The younger Tomas was made the capataz (overseer) of the hacienda, Manuel kept the record of the hacienda store (which had canned goods, clothing, hardware, and farm equipment for sale), Antonio was assigned to household work while the youngest, Juan, was assigned to feed the poultry and do some farm chores.
Don Tomas continued to purchase additional lands. He bought Bongo Island as well as large tracts of land in Kusiong and Cotabato.
The arrival of three other nephews as well as the expansion of his landholding necessitated changes in assignments. Manuel was assigned to Bongo Island. Antonio replaced Manuel in handling the office work. Juan, Antonio and Francisco were assigned as capataz of the hacienda. Jose became the mechanic and storekeeper. Domingo, because he was still very young, was spared from heavy responsibilities.
Don Tomas formalized the organization of his landholding by establishing two family corporations. One was in reference to his holdings in Bongo Island, which he named Isla de Fortuna (Land of Fortune). For this, he formed the corporation Roales Hermanos y Primos. The other was in reference to his holdings in Kusiong and Cotabato. For this he formed the corporation Herederos de Tomas Roales y Requeña. His extensive holding in Kusiong, he called Villa Rosa.
He later decided to divide among his six nephews the management of the Kusiong landholding. Francisco Blanco y Roales was assigned to Tapian; Antonio Roales y Medina to Kusiong, Tomas Martinez y Roales to Pinansaran, and Antonio Martinez y Roales to Bual. Each of the subdivisions consisted of 249 hectares. Juan Roales y Medina was assigned to manage the Kinitaan Ranch in Upi. The ranch had around 20,000 heads of animals. Jose Rodriguez y Blanco was assigned as storekeeper, driver, and to the maintenance of the Villa's transport - trucks as well as boats and launches.
